About the roles

Role title

Associate Solutions Designer (2 Vacancies)

Please Note: These roles may be offered as an APS 3, 4 or 5 dependant on the candidates experience.

Tenure

The roles are full-time, non-ongoing contracts for up to 18 months, but part-time may be considered for the right applicant.

The roles are located in Tuggeranong, ACT.

What you will do

Information and communications technology (ICT) continues to be a key catalyst, enabler and driver of the agency’s customer service transformation.  The Technology Services Group provides the underpinning technology and expertise to support the agency’s vision in the provision of government services to Australians. Whilst the majority of ICT jobs are performed within the Technology Services Group, there may be instances where an ICT job is performed outside of this group.

Solution Design describes the function of designing and delivering new functional solutions and providing ongoing support for ICT solutions. The Solution Designer supports the configuration of new functional solutions and provides ongoing support for ICT solutions. They are responsible for assisting the design and optimisation of enterprise-wide deployment of ICT technology solutions. Solution Designers require an understanding of ICT product offerings and their ability to work with other components as well as a high level understanding of interface technology.

The Solution Designer works under the general direction and support of senior staff. They exercise a degree of independent judgement and make decisions within defined parameters that require reliance on skills and knowledge. They plan their own work and contribute to team work goals in the context of competing priorities, and changes in workplace practices and business improvement strategies.

As a Solutions Designer, you will work as part of a multi-skilled team to:

  • Assist with analysis, evaluation of business processes and requirements and propose and create solution specifications for projects
  • Conduct technical/application assessments for projects and consider feasibility, effort and risk
  • Support the creation of conceptual and logical business solution design (i.e. blueprint, solution design documents) and assist with implementing solutions to meet business requirements
  • Undertake project quality management tasks such as peer and quality reviews of specifications and design documents
  • Participate in project reviews and assist in the creation of action plans Assist in the configuration and development of ICT applications to meet business requirements
  • Conduct testing
  • Support the deployment of technology solutions
  • Provide support to the daily operations and monitor performance of business solutions
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to ensure effective and timely implementation of projects
  • Prepare correspondence such as reports, corporate and technical documentation for review by senior staff
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of improvements and best practice in processes and procedures
  • Allocate work to team members, using judgement to match issue complexity and staff capability, and reduce peaks and troughs in workload
  • Adhere to delivery and support methodologies and contribute ideas for improvement
  • Assist with cost analysis activities as required
  • Escalate issues as required and suggest alternative approaches
  • Exercise delegations in accordance with legislation and guidelines

Applicant Requirements

Must have

To apply for these roles, these things are essential:

  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Must have a diagnosis of autism (including autism spectrum disorder; Asperger’s Syndrome; Autistic Disorder or PDD-NOS).  ‘Specialisterne may be required to provide evidence of your diagnosis to Services Australia to confirm your eligibility for the program.’
  • Must have proof of Australian Citizenship and agree to background checks
  • Must be able to obtain a Baseline security clearance
  • Must live within a daily commutable distance to the location of the role.

Nice to have

These things are not essential, but if you have them that’s great:

  • Obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in Software Engineering; Software Development; Information Technology; Systems Engineering; Computer Science; Network Security; Data and Analytics; Mathematics; Statistics; Engineering; Business; Software Development; Cyber Security or related disciplines or have relatable real-world experience in same or similar fields.
  • A strong interest or experience in any of the following or related fields: Systems Testing, Applications Development, Data Analytics, Systems Analysis, Business Analysis, Systems Administration, Cyber Security, Cloud Computing (AWS, Azure, Linux, Docker, Kubernetes), DevOps, Networking, Engineering, Business, or in related disciplines
  • Experience or knowledge of any of the following: Requirement’s definition and management; Business modelling; Systems design; User experience analysis; User experience evaluation; Porting/Software configuration; Problem management.
