About the team
The Infrastructure Platforms Branch is responsible for the agency’s IT services. This includes managing the technology, tools and software needed to deliver these services to our customers.

About the roles

Associate Technical Engineer (3 Vacancies)

The roles are full-time, non-ongoing contracts for up to 18 months, but part-time may be considered for the right applicant.

What you will do
Information and communications technology (ICT) continues to be a key catalyst, enabler and driver of the agency’s customer service transformation. The Technology Services Group provides the underpinning technology and expertise to support the agency’s vision in the provision of government services to Australians.
ICT Technical Engineering describes the function which manages and maintains all IT platforms, including all technical landscape design, installation, configuration, deployment, technical security and operation of ICT components and databases. The Associate Technical Engineer supports the delivery of technical landscape design, installation, configuration, deployment, technical security and operation of ICT components and databases.
The Associate Technical Engineer works under the support and general direction of senior staff and makes decisions within defined legislative and policy parameters. They exercise a degree of discretion when interpreting and applying procedures and guidelines. The Associate Technical Engineer undertakes their work to achieve results in line with agreed goals and business plans.
As an Associate Technical Engineer, you will work as part of a multi-skilled team to:
- Monitor and maintain ICT software, and assist with system tests under supervision of senior staff
- Help define and operate backup, high availability and disaster recovery solutions for ICT systems
- Perform the administration and operation of the database solution
- Perform technical operations for ICT solutions and interfaces
- Assist with maintenance of technical system information in service tools
- Assist with daily monitoring activities including load testing and performance
- Assist with problem management and root cause analysis
- Support technical change management
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of ICT related legislation, policy and processes
- Prepare draft documentation for review by senior staff
- Collaborate with stakeholders to ensure effective and timely implementation of ticket resolution
- Exercise delegation in accordance with legislation and guidelines

Must have

- Must be 18 years of age or older.
- Must have a diagnosis of autism (including autism spectrum disorder; Asperger’s Syndrome; Autistic Disorder or PDD-NOS). ‘Specialisterne may be required to provide evidence of your diagnosis to Services Australia to confirm your eligibility for the program.’
- Must have proof of Australian Citizenship and agree to background checks
- Must be able to obtain a Baseline security clearance
- Must live within a daily commutable distance to the location of the role.

- Obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in Software Engineering; Software Development; Information Technology; Systems Engineering; Computer Science; Network Security; Data and Analytics; Mathematics; Statistics; Engineering; Business; Software Development; Cyber Security or related disciplines or have relatable real-world experience in same or similar fields.
- A strong interest or experience in any of the following or related fields: Systems Testing, Applications Development, Data Analytics, Systems Analysis, Business Analysis, Systems Administration, Cyber Security, Cloud Computing (AWS, Azure, Linux, Docker, Kubernetes), DevOps, Networking, Engineering, Business, or in related disciplines
- Have practical and advanced experience working with data and coding, in particular data extraction techniques using different products and languages including Structured Query Language (SQL), Python, R, SAS and advanced Microsoft Excel
- Are interested in or have studied and understand the software development lifecycle, computer science, mathematics, statistics or coding, etc… at a relatively advanced level
- Have a basic understanding of machine learning and unsupervised machine learning
- Enjoy working in a technical landscape and assisting in the design, development and implementation of data analytics solutions for end users
- Are creative thinkers, with the ability to explore and assist with implementing technical solutions
- Can communicate and convey key messages, verbal and written
- Display attention to detail
- Love problem solving and enjoy performing some research and analysis activities.
- Can work as part of a team
