About the team

The Cyber Operations Branch monitors, analyses, remediates and refers suspicious or malicious cyber events impacting Services Australia, other government agencies/departments as part of shared services arrangements and the broader cyber security community nationally and internationally. A part of the Cyber Operations Branch is the Cyber Security Operations Centre (CSOC) team which is the first line of defence against cyber security events.

CSOC Analysts are responsible for monitoring and analysis of the network, referring suspicious or malicious events to Incident responders or Cyber threat hunt team members who handle the remediation of cyber incidents and proactive investigation of threats.

The team work to contain, eradicate and recover from Cyber events affecting the agency.

About the roles

What you will do

The Cyber Security Operations team is the first line of defence in the Cyber Security Operations Centre (CSOC). They are responsible for monitoring, analysis, remediation and referral of suspicious or malicious cyber events impacting Services Australia and its shared service agencies.

All Security Analysts are required to exercise independence, initiative and judgment in the assessment of cyber security events. A Security Analyst is expected to complete complex tasks under limited direction against established priorities and procedures. Employees in this role are responsible for making decisions relating to detection and response of cyber events, based on technical knowledge, best practice, research and analysis.

This role requires in-depth knowledge of cyber security fundamentals to accurately determine impact, relevance and urgency on cyber security incidents.

As a Cyber Security Analyst, you will work as part of a multi-skilled team to:

  • Have accountability for tasks and decisions and supports less experienced employees in achieving their goals through the provision of guidance and quality assurance.
  • Develop plans and objectives for short-term tasks of the work area and contribute to strategic planning for longer-term initiatives of the section.
  • Make decisions within defined parameters and set new precedents based on sound subject matter knowledge and professional judgement.
  • Identify problems or issues and resolve or establish treatments to mitigate.
  • Contribute to the setting of the direction of work priorities and practices, monitoring work flow and identifying training needs for lower classification levels.
  • Ensure knowledge of and compliance with legislative, financial and administrative frameworks, government decision-making processes and agency guidelines and regulations.

Location of role

This role is offered in Tuggeranong, ACT only, however applicants prepared to relocate for employment are encouraged to apply.

Applicant Requirements

Must have

To apply for these roles, these things are essential:

  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Must have a diagnosis of autism (including autism spectrum disorder; Asperger’s Syndrome; Autistic Disorder or PDD-NOS).  ‘Specialisterne may be required to provide evidence of your diagnosis to Services Australia to confirm your eligibility for the program.’
  • Must have proof of Australian Citizenship and agree to background checks
  • Must be able to obtain a Baseline security clearance
  • Must live within a daily commutable distance to the location of the role.

Nice to have

These things are not essential, but if you have them that’s great:

  • Obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in Software Engineering; Software Development; Information Technology; Systems Engineering; Computer Science; Network Security; Data and Analytics; Mathematics; Statistics; Engineering; Business; Software Development; Cyber Security or related disciplines or have relatable real-world experience in same or similar fields.
  • A strong interest or experience in any of the following or related fields: Systems Testing, Applications Development, Data Analytics, Systems Analysis, Business Analysis, Systems Administration, Cyber Security, Cloud Computing (AWS, Azure, Linux, Docker, Kubernetes), DevOps, Networking, Engineering, Business, or in related disciplines
  • Passion for cyber security, learning, and knowledge sharing
  • Previous experience in governance & compliance or cyber security role would be desirable
  • Proactive in following the assurance process
  • Understanding of Security Risk and Compliance i.e., PSPF, ISM controls at the PROTECTED level
  • Understanding of Security Compliance Frameworks
  • Knowledge of Cloud Security Architecture
  • Understanding of Application Security Fundamentals
  • Understanding of Infrastructure Security Management
  • Knowledge of Secure Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC)
  • Understanding of the cyber security threat landscape i.e., prevalent vulnerabilities, threats, attack methods
  • Understanding of computer and network security
