Specialisterne Australia offers an alternative pathway for people on the autism spectrum to connect with employers who recognise and value the contributions and talents that individuals on the spectrum can bring to their organisations.

Specialisterne exists because autistic candidates are being overlooked for employment, largely due to the many barriers that autistic candidates come up against when competing for employment in typical recruitment practices.

Location of roles
Job roles are located in Brisbane CBD, QLD and applicants should live within a commutable distance to the role/s being applied for. Applicants prepared to relocate to Brisbane for employment through the Aurora Neurodiversity Program 2022 are encouraged to apply.

 

Applicant Requirements
Must have
To apply for these roles, these things are essential:

  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • Must have a diagnosis of autism (including Autism Spectrum Disorder; Asperger’s Syndrome; Autistic Disorder or PDD-NOS) 
  • Must have proof of Australian Citizenship and agree to Services Australia background checks
  • All candidates must be able to undergo a police check, and some will require a government clearance.
  • Must be able to participate in the Specialisterne Australia Talent Program process
Nice to have
These things are not essential, but if you have them that’s great:

  • Motivated, focussed and strong attention to detail
  • Ability to work autonomously, take initiative and work as part of a team environment
  • Obtained a TAFE Qualification or Bachelors Degree in Information Technology; Computer Science; Network Security; Data and Analytics; Mathematics; Statistics; Engineering; Business; Software Development; Cyber Security; Security; Administration; Project Management; or related disciplines or have relatable real-world experience in same or similar fields
  • A strong interest in any of the following: Systems Testing, Applications Development, Data Analytics, Systems Analysis, Business Analysis, Systems Administration, Cloud Computing (AWS, Azure, Linux Docker, Kubernetes, DevOps, Networking, Engineering)
  • An understanding of programming languages and/or development and production environments – Python, Java, JavaScript, SQL, C#, .NET, Node.js/Express, MySQL, PostgreSQL and other desirable languages

Shortlisted applicants will be invited to participate in a 1-day practical screening workshop where they will find out more about the roles and undertake activities and assessments to determine their suitability for the various opportunities.
At the conclusion of the Talent Program activities, successful candidates will be offered employment. If you are unsuccessful, you may be considered for other Specialisterne opportunities.
Activities will be delivered in-person and online in a virtual assessment centre environment and therefore candidates are expected to have use of their own computer with a webcam and microphone, and have access to the internet in order to participate.

Data Analyst: Sydney, NSW

We are excited to partner with Transport for NSW in their search for a Data Analyst from our community of autistic candidates.

The Data Analyst will be responsible for achieving and maintaining high standards of service delivery in liaison with clients and team members, managing time and prioritising issues, and dealing with work peaks and pressures.

The role requires a good level of attention to detail but has very strong support around it where the team member can seek assistance.

The role will also involve tasks that are repetitive and follow routines.
While the role requires good knowledge of working with data and analytics, regular training will be provided to become familiar with our processes and systems.

Reporting Coordinator: Sydney, NSW

We are excited to partner with Transport for NSW in their search for a Reporting Coordinator from our community of autistic candidates.

Sydney Metro is leading Australia’s biggest public transport infrastructure program, developing and delivering a new world-class metro railway system for Sydney.

The role provides coordination of reporting and support services for the development and maintenance as well as continuous improvement of regular reports.

The role also enables effective decision making across projects and provides high level administrative and communications support to contribute toward the effective operation of the social procurement and industry development team, and alignment to the wider Sydney Metro Workforce Development & Industry Participation strategy.

The role leads and delivers high level project support to ensure the efficient functioning of the senior executive management and their respective Division. APS4 Data Analyst: Brisbane, QLD

We are excited to partner with Services Australia in their Aurora Neurodiversity Program, for a Data Analyst from within our community of talented autistic candidates.

The team provides data management services to the Intelligence and Investigation Branch to detect, disrupt and deter criminal acts against our customers.

The Data Management and Scheduling team’s primary objective is to provide data support to our Branch by managing data assets and processes.

This may include scheduling, data updates, ingesting data from external and internal sources, extracting information and reporting on the highest risk of fraud threats, including emergency disaster event fraud and identity fraud across all programs.

Additionally, deploying detection strategies, oversight of scheduled data process to enable fraud detection and assurance activities, management of selection referrals, including detection tools (e.g. data breaches), and to support our selection’s reporting capabilities by extracting data may also form part of your role.

Project Coordinator: Sydney, NSW
